Random Crashes on Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit (Steam)

I have a Radeon 5770 and I'm using the open source drivers. With the stock version of Mesa that ships with Ubuntu (9.1.4), the game just crashes on startup. With a bleeding edge version of Mesa, the game runs but will crash at a random point during play. The earliest I've had it crash was during a briefing, but it's also crashed during a mission and after dismissing the post-combat results screen. Here's the beginning of the output of minidump_walk when run against the dump produced by the latest crash:

Code: Select all
Operating system: Linux
                  0.0.0 Linux 3.8.0-31-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 10 20:03:44 UTC 2013 x86_64
CPU: x86
     AuthenticAMD family 16 model 4 stepping 2
     4 CPUs

Crash reason:  DUMP_REQUESTED
Crash address: 0xf6bfe476

Thread 14 (crashed)

    esi = 0x00000000   edi = 0x00000000   eax = 0x00000000   ecx = 0x00000001

Any ideas apart from switching to fglrx?

Hey, many thanks for contacting us. I've contacted our programmer and as far as I'm concerned we've encountered a problem, which causes our game to do not work properly with the drivers you've mentioned. And as for now the only way to make our game works as we'd want to is to get the drivers from the manufacturer of hardware - as You've mentioned, you have to switch to fglrx.
