Frozen to death

Frozen to death

Postby Mr_Daddy_Pants » Thu Dec 25, 2014 9:24 pm

Played the game when it came out, wanted to get one more play-through after the patch. On day 6-7 i (winter start). I just upgraded heater, and stuck it with 6 fuel. During night classical: 1 scavenge, 1 guard (slightly sick), 1 (sick) sleep in bed. In the morning i see glorious message that guarding guy froze to death. Hilarious, is there a new mechanic for freezing on guard duty?

Wow, I haven't seen that before. This game is full of subtle details, that make each playthrough a revelation.

Are you sure the heater was working? Because an upgraded heater with six fuel should easily keep the house warm enough. Was the house still above freezing the next morning? Or had the heater burned through so much fuel, that it was too cold?

I find that 6 fuel lasts only a few hours before one fuel burns out, whereas the first one or two fuel can last days. It is more efficient to have two or three heaters burning little fuel, to spread the load, and improve efficiency.

I know that sub-15 degrees C tends to cause big increases in sickness, but unless you had sub-zero temperatures in the house overnight, I can't see how you could get so cold to freeze to death.

On the other hand, I had two heaters in my last playthrough. Not upgraded, they had 3 fuel in each, and the temperature was barely holding 5 degrees. I wonder if the extreme cold has been made even colder, demanding more heating than usual? Upping the difficulty level in the 1.2 patch, or perhaps "learning" your difficulty rating from previous playthroughs.

Yep It happened to me once too.
Is not that hard. U only have to try to survive the winter with no improved hitter and pass the day .... :-S

It was warm in the morning with like 4-5 fuel left. And it didn't affect other guy who was sleeping through the night. And right before "the night" - the temp. was like 16C. I'm starting to thing it was a weird bug. Cause it never happened in any of my previous or next play-troughs.

Yeah, that seems like a bug. The shelter was plenty warm enough.

He wasn't standing outside, shovelling snow, when 8.00pm came, perchance? No reason he should stay out there all night, and that activity doesn't seem to affect survivor's health, but I am beginning to wonder just how detailed the simulations are in this game....

That is the sort of thing I permit myself to use "leave" and "continue", to replay from that morning.
You should get a different result. Raider results can change, as can sicknesses and wounds getting better or worse.
I have certainly seen a death by wounding reversed into continued life.
