Install QuickBooks Desktop on the server computer.

Set up folder permissions on the server computer.
Right-click on the QuickBooks company file (.qbw) and select "Properties."
Click the "Security" tab.
Add the "Everyone" group with "Full control" permissions.
Click "Apply" and then "OK."

Install Database Server Manager on the server computer.
Database Server Manager is included with QuickBooks Desktop installation.
You can also download it from the Intuit website.

Adjust firewall and security settings on the server computer.
Allow incoming TCP/IP connections on port 6189.
This port is used by QuickBooks to communicate with remote users.
You may also need to configure your firewall to allow connections from specific IP addresses or networks.

Set admin rights on the server computer.
Create a separate user account for QuickBooks administration.
Grant this user account full access to the QuickBooks company file and Database Server Manager.

Use Database Server Manager to turn on hosting.
Open Database Server Manager.
Select the QuickBooks company file you want to host.
Click the "Host Multi-User Access" button.
Select "Yes" to confirm.

Install QuickBooks Desktop on user workstations.
Install QuickBooks Desktop on each computer that will access the company file.
You do not need to install Database Server Manager on these computers.

Open the company file on user workstations.
Open QuickBooks Desktop on each user workstation.
Select "Network" as the connection type.
Enter the server computer's name or IP address.
Select the company file you want to open.
