Game crashes "heavily" on Ubuntu 12.10

My system: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit, AMD HD6870, fglrx 9.0 and 9.1 beta.

When starting the game the intro videos play fine, however once it switches to the menu with the engine generated background
(1) the menu entries are off the screen to the right
(2) clicking the left corners of menu entries (that's all that is still visible) doesn't do anything
(3) Hitting the keyboard "disables" the keyboard and freezes the mouse; IOW the music is still playing, but I can't even switch to another session to kill the program let alone go to windowed mode (even num lock is dead) - all I can do is a hard reset.

Tried it with two versions with same results:
1326768872 and a more recent
1331597867

The game worked without any problems on the same hardware on Ubuntu 12.04 and fglrx 8.9x.

Yep, that may happen, we did not do any updates to support latest distributions.
This is in the pipeline, hard to estimate when we could make it though.
thanks.

My technical reply:
Confirmed Failure on Catalyst 13.1; Linux Mint 14 Mate 64bit
Detailed System Specs Summary : http://pastebin.com/WBQ94bsv

My Personal reply:
The problem still exists, almost 2 months after being reported.

While I understand that porting applications and games to new platforms is difficult at best, I would like to mention that if this were an opensource project, then
"This is in the pipeline, hard to estimate when we could make it though"
would be a perfectly relevant and acceptable reply.

However, considering this is a COMMERCIAL and "Paid For" application, it is not an acceptable response.

I am experiencing these issues, and I'm not the only one. You can find the hottest topic on Steam here : http://steamcommunity.com/app/91200/discussions/0/864959088378262156

There are more people on this one thread alone, than any other relating to your game. I would advise interacting directly with your Valuable Customers directly in the Steam forum, as these are your bread and butter. I respect a company that releases a game for Linux. However, lack of support for the community shows a lack of interest. Some of us feel ripped off at buying a game that does not work, and having little to no response from the company that released it.

Support your Linux followers. They can reward you more than any other community. They are fickle. If you gain their loyalty, you will gain it for life.

Hi,
Well, actually we did update the game from that time and the version on Steam supports more distributions than older versions.
The game uses many graphical features and for some reason some drivers don't want to work and we don't know the way to overcome this. Probably you know that each developer doing stuff for Linux is facing the same problem unless we are talking about very simple 2D game. Nvidia drivers are generally better written than AMD ones and the problems almost do not exist in Anomaly on Linux with Nvidia gpu.

My only recommendation is:
- please use driver from AMD website rather then the one from distribution
- try using 32bit libs

If neither would work, please contact Steam for the refund. I know they're ok with refunding if the game is not working.

thanks

And the expected turnaround time for direct customer support?

What about when we can expect some feedback on whats happening, and what changes are being made?

Where is the changelog?

Where are your steps to help us report the issue in more detail to help your Dev's troubleshoot the problem?

As a community, we want information. We dont care if it takes 6 months to resolve, as long as we KNOW whats going on. None of us want to hear or read :

It does not work. We all want to help you and your devs, but we need the tools to do it. Help us, help you. We are more tech savvy than the average Windows User. We have more technical expertise, and can provide you with syslogs, traces anything at all.

We want your game to work for us.

Just joking :)

That's the issue. Of course we will try to solve this bug, but I totally cannot estimate when. I rather prefer not to tell solid dates as then we may slip and people would be angry because of the delay.

When it comes to help - highly appreciated. I'll ask the coders what would they exactly need.

thanks
