System freezes on starting up Anomaly, Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit

On startup, the initial intro video is shown before the system freezes (which I cannot escape even with Ctrl+Alt+F1, unless in a non-fullscreen window), though I do have mouse control. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E520, with a Radeon HD 6600M graphics card, with the proprietary fglrx drivers installed. I have reason to think they have been installed correctly as the output of 'fglrxinfo' reads:
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series
OpenGL version string: 4.2.11762 Compatibility Profile Context
The output of vainfo reads:
libva: VA-API version 0.32.0
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva: va_openDriver() returns 0
vainfo: VA-API version: 0.32 (libva 1.0.15)
vainfo: Driver version: Intel i965 driver - 1.0.15
vainfo: Supported profile and entrypoints
VAProfileMPEG2Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264Baseline : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264Baseline : VAEntrypointEncSlice
VAProfileH264Main : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264Main : VAEntrypointEncSlice
VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileH264High : VAEntrypointEncSlice
VAProfileVC1Simple : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileVC1Main : VAEntrypointVLD
VAProfileVC1Advanced : VAEntrypointVLD
A relevant part of /var/log/Xorg.0.log reads:
[ 25.853] (II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
[ 25.853] (II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.98.2
[ 25.853] (II) fglrx(0): Date: Jul 27 2012
[ 25.853] (II) fglrx(0): Desc: AMD FireGL DRM kernel module
[ 25.853] (II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version matches driver.
Going by other posts in the forum, I suppose it's the part about Intel i965 driver which is the issue. Is there any solution or upcoming fix?
