Running under Ubuntu 10.04 - works fine now!

Hi, I would like to know if Ubuntu Lucid is supported as a Linux platform.
I just bought Anomaly in the Humble Bundle, but during the installation of the .deb package I am getting this:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of anomaly:
anomaly depends on libc6 (>= 2.12); however:
Version of libc6 on system is 2.11.1-0ubuntu7.8.

So, is there a way to run it under this OS?

Yes, support of Ubuntu 10.04 would be appreciated, since its Long Term Support (LTS) lasts until April 2013.

I can't install the 64bit deb because it needs ia32-libs >=20080808 and Ubuntu 10.04 has ia32-libs 2.7ubuntu26.1 (10.10 has 20090808ubuntu9.1).

Please help us running Anomaly on our systems. Thanks!

Vaxter

edit: I managed to install it without the dependencies, but then the game itself refuses to run:

Code: Select all
./AnomalyWarzoneEarth: /lib32/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.12' not found (required by ./AnomalyWarzoneEarth)

Yes Vaxter, that was the same exact error I got when installing the game from the tar.gz
So I tried with the .deb, in the hope dpkg could fix the dependency issue, but that wasn't the case.
In conclusion, we are both stuck :(

Well, we could still look for an updated libc6 and ia32-lib somewhere else, but I won't risk messing up my system for one game. One pivotal advantage of today's Linux distributions is their tested set of components.

So let's wait if someone can help us here.

Actually I tried something similar, grabbing a libc6 from a Maverick .deb package and extracting all the libraries to the folder where I installed Anomaly (from the tar.gz), and using LD_LIBRARY_PATH to use those instead of the system default ones. The result:
"Segmentation fault"

I guess this is not the way I'm supposed to fix that :lol:

Hi!

It seems like 10.04 users are like between the devil and the deep blue sea. According to what I've researched this afternoon, ubuntu devs are not likely to upgrade any of the critical system libraries like libc6 , an lts release has to be rock solid and focused on stability. Even if you would like to experiment with some third party ppa's, as far as I know, there's no such that provides tested packages that do work. Personally, I'm not into compiling stuff from sources, taking into consideration that ubuntu 10.04 was released about 2 years ago and messing around with it could brake system's integrity. There are two options here, either the dev team releases a patched version shipped with all needed dependecies or purchasers upgrade their systems. Maybe I'm wrong with this statement, but after hours of tweaking my system to work perfectly with hardware I'm not willing to abandon it for the sake of the forced progress.
Anyway, the game is really sweat! Cannot wait to put my hands on it!

Hi guys,
Can you name what GPU you are using? Intel drivers are not supported and they may cause the issue.

Anyway, we're investigating what (if not the driver) can cause the issue with Ubuntu 10.04 and please expect some feedback from us mid next week.
thanks

So is the idea that there will be no support for Intel GPUs? I don't want to pursue a refund from Humble Bundle if there is hope for Intel support. At the same time, I would never have purchased the bundle had I known that Anomaly was unplayable for me.

Update: I see now from other threads (http://forum.anomalythegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=200&start=10&sid=337ad5594047638a9909f85e3708fd2b&sid=337ad5594047638a9909f85e3708fd2b#p852) in the forum that you are checking in to the possibility of an Intel solution. I hope it works out!

Hello admin,

our issue here is not the graphics driver, its the dependencies of Anomaly on newer versions of the libraries mentioned above. So our humble request to the developers is to check if those dependencies can be altered so that the game runs under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which is a long term support version of Ubuntu and still valid up until April 2013.

Nevertheless, my graphics card is an NVidia 9800GT running the proprietary 64 bit NVidia drivers version 195.36.24.

Cheers

Hello admin,
thank you for your interest in the issue. As Vaxter stated, it's not a problem with graphic drivers, I don't even get to install the game because of the unsatisfied dependency to a libc version that is not supported on Lucid.
I guess it would require a recompilation under this platform to get things going for us, or (not sure it's possible) the required compatibility runtime libraries should be shipped together with the game.

Anyway, as far as my graphic card is concerned, I have an ATI 5770 with 32-bits Catalyst drivers installed...

Thank you!
